We need a science-proven data-based comprehensive anti-bullying program in all New Zealand schools. We will work to do that.

The New Zealand Human Rights Commission regards violence, abuse and bullying of children as a major human rights issue in New Zealand. We support the work being done in New Zealand on family and sexual violence because it will reduce violence, abuse and bullying of children. However we also need a science-proven data-based comprehensive anti-bullying program in all New Zealand schools. We will work to do that inside and outside the Bullying Prevention Advisory Group (BPAG) that is advising the Ministry of Education until such time as such a program is in place in all New Zealand Schools. We acknowledge the progress BPAG has made. It is necessary progress. But it is not yet sufficient progress.

David Rutherford, New Zealand Chief Human Rights Commissioner
