Costa Rica reiterates its commitments in the fight to end violence against children

Costa Rica reiterates its commitments in the fight to end violence against children. In the first place, in follow up of the recommendations of the SRSG during her visit to Costa Rica, a National Plan on violence against children and adolescents was developed and is being discussed at the National Council for Childhood and Adolescents to be approved in the following months.

Our pledge is developed additionally through on-going public policies and programs that include, for example, the establishment of community centers for the integral protection of children and family promotion; the deployment of field units in our communities for prevention, education and consulting; the extension of institutional presence in the field; we have created an Upbringing Academy  which supports parents and caregivers to promote respectful and responsible parenting respectful of the rights of children and adolescents through which thousands of  parents, teenagers and children participate in prevention projects with Non-Governmental Organizations, and thousands of parents have graduated in a vision of upbringing that is rights-based; the creation of an Observatory for childhood and adolescence development, as well as  training education campaigns to further a culture of respect for children’s rights at the national level.
